At the time, she was in debt for L5 million which included a tax bill and an overdraft at Coutts. In early 1997, she said she would give up Kingsbourne, the rented house as it was cost L6000 a month. Her divorce settlement had not been generous. Most of the money was put into a trust for the two princesses and some money for the purchase of a house. In February 1997, she and the princesses moved back, albeit temporarily, to Sunningdale. She lived in the guest room. She wanted to use the L500,000 to refurbish a stable house on the estate but that was rejected. In July 1998, the Daily Telegraph reported that the Queen was going to help Sarah purchase a 1.5 million home Birch Hall in Surrey which would be held in trust for the princesses. Later that year, she said that she would not move into Birch Hall unless she received more money as she could afford to maintain the house. She lived in one wing of her former marital home, but she did not live with Andrew who spent a lot of time at BP. She hired to lawyer to try and get a better marital deal, but that backfired. Birch hall was put up for sale in the spring off 1999. The trustees for the Princesses (Rupert Hambro, Lord Porchester and David Cospatrick, had to sell it. In 2002, she rented a smaller place, a "bolt hole" in Windlesha, but she used it to store things but remained at sunninghill. when Andrew moved to Royal Lodge in 2003, Sarah was told that she could not live there-- the girls were going to boarding school although there were reports that she was staying there when the girls were there. By 2007, she was living most of each year in the US. She had the use of a guest room at royal lodge, and still rented the place at Windlesham, but the girls could not stay there because it was not secure enough. In 2009 came the Hartmoor bankruptcy. Sarah had been living in a house that had a fire, moved into another place, but that did not work out so it was back to guest room. Earlier that year, Hello profiled Sarah in her new Manhattan apartment .. which of course was lost after the Hartmoor bankruptcy. In 2010, she apologized for the lapse in judgement when she was caught selling access to Andrew. She had serious debts again. Jeffrey epstein allegedly paid off her debts. while she still has that guest room, she spends a lot of time at her new home in SwitzerlandMarlene Eilers Koenighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14984860671065161997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3343837766028558539.post-53623613117057234752016-07-24T00:01:57.646-04:002016-07-24T00:01:57.646-04:00Sarah was hardly an ordinary girl. Ronald Ferguson's mother, Marian Montagu Douglas Scott, was a first cousin of Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. Robert Fellowes' (husband of Lady Jane Spencer) was a cousin as well. His maternal grandfather was Sarah's great grandfather. Sarah may not have been titled, but she was far from ordinary. Her family had money, and Dummer Dowm Farm, now owned by her half brother, Andrew, is far from an ordinary home.
